This can turn out to be a real challenge since you can rely only on few data. In such situations we can include a particular error message which is saying that ‘The Windows Store needs to be online’ even when your Internet connection is working just fine.

1. Run a system file check

If you received the Windows Store error after applying a new Windows 10 update or after installing certain software, you should run a system scan. In this way you can search for system errors and address everything automatically. Here is what you need to do:

  1. On your computer open an elevated command prompt window – you can do this by right-clicking on the Windows Start icon and choosing ‘Command Prompt (Admin)’.Windows Store needs to be online
  2. In the cmd window type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  3. Wait while the scan runs – it might take a while depending on how many files are stored on your hard drive.
  4. Additionally, in the same cmd window type and run the following commands (press Enter after each command line): Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth; Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

2. Run the Windows app troubleshooter

If the system scan wasn’t helpful, you should also initiate another scan which is dedicated for fixing apps and associated files. This is a Windows default troubleshooter which can also fix any Windows Store related problems.

In order to complete this solution, access this webpage and download the Microsoft App troubleshooter on your computer. Run the executable file and just follow on-screen prompts for initiating the scan.

In the end restart your device and try Windows Store in order to see if you still get the already discussed ‘the store needs to be online’ malfunction.

3. Reset the Windows Store app

  1. On your device press the Win+R keyboard hotkeys.
  2. The Run field will be brought.
  3. In the Run box type Wsreset.exe and press Enter.
  4. Wait until the process is executed and reboot your Windows 10 system in the end.

4. Reinstall the Windows Store app

First of all, remove Windows Store from your computer:

  1. On your computer click on the Search button – usually, it’s the Cortana icon.
  2. There, type power shell.
  3. Right-click on the result with the same name and choose ‘run as administrator’.
  4. From Power Shell now find the Windows Store entry; copy the Windows Store name as it’s displayed in Power Shell.windows store entery power shell

  6. The Windows Store app will be now removed from your Windows 10 device.

And now, reinstall the Windows Store app:

  1. Open the Power Shell command line window as explained above – you must run it with admin rights.
  2. In Power Shell type and execute the following command: Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”}.
  3. Restart your system in the end.

5. Create a new Microsoft account

  1. Press the Win+I keyboard hotkeys.
  2. System Settings will be displayed; from there click on Accounts.fix the store needs to be online
  3. From the left panel choose Family & other users.
  4. Follow on-screen prompts and create a new account.
  5. Sign-in with the new account and verify Windows Store as there shouldn’t be any remained problems now.
