After reviewing some gaming and educational Windows 8, Windows 10 applications, it’s time to move to the entertainment field with a movie application for Windows 8 and Windows 10, called Movie Guide. Watching movies on your Windows 8 and Windows 10 device will be one of the most active things you’ll be doing. And as we are waiting for IMDB to release a compatible application with the newly released Windows 8 and Windows 10 ecosystem, we will review Movie Guide.
Movie Guide review for Windows 8 and Windows 10
Currently, Movie Guide has a 3.5/5 rating in the Windows Store, but like I said with many apps before, this is going to change as more people will download and rate the application. Currently, with an impressive number of more than 70,000 movies in their databse, Movie Guide is a Windows 8 and Windows 10 movie application that seriously changes the official IMDB one. Let’s see what else Movie Guide comes with. I never encountered this issue, but there are plenty of folks that sometimes don’t know what movie to watch.
Well, Movie Guide is such a Windows 8 and Windows 10 application that will take that off your mind. Movie Guide’s way of arranging actor, director’s information is sometimes similar to Wikipedia, as you can see from the images. You can see movie trailers inside the applications, ratings for those movies, synapsis and even similar movies. This feature – similar movies, has been “troubling” me. Sometimes, movies weren’t too similar, but most of the time, it managed to bring, indeed, movies that, at least by genre, were similar.
Movie Guide: almost as good as IMDB
Just like with the well-known IMDB, you have watchlists that, I have to say, look pretty neat. Just add to your watchlist movies that you’d like to watch. Also, you can create a list with movies that you have seen and have made a good impression on you, or not. It’s obvious that a lot of work has been put into this application as for every movie, there is a background picture related to the movie itself.
But why doesn’t it have a better rating if it’s that great? Well, plenty of users have reported that the application requires Flash to be run, and sometimes that can be buggy, even if the installation has been performed. Also, many have reported that sometimes, the application moves too slow and using the application with mouse and keyboard isn’t quite pleasant. We can only hope developers are listenting to these complaints.
Everything is poachy with Movie Guide application for Windows 8 and Windows 10 but there’s a big drawback, in my opinion – there are no reviews submitted by regular users. For example, when I go on IMDB, what interests me the most is what the users think about the movie, so there’s another rating system. Most of the time, I find the reviews from users to be much more accurate than the official rating of the movie. That’s why, I hope they’ll include this in next versions. To summarize, here’s what Movie Guide for Windows 8 can do for you and what you can do with it:
- Be your reliable movie guide
- Watch movie trailers
- Find similar movies
- Make watchlists and lists with your favorite movies
