I don’t think it is helping them to improve products. My understanding is that focus groups hated preview versions of Windows 8. They blew off that feedback and continued on the same development track anyway. Windows 8 adoption, big surprise, was abysmal.

My guess is they shamelessly sell the data they get from Windows 10 (and now also 8 and 7 via uninstallable Windows Updates) Customer improvement is just a cover story.

You could make a legal argument that data is an asset. By doing this aggressive stuff to get it you could argue they are stealing. If they want it so bad I feel they should start an opt-in program to pay users monthly for the access.

IoT botnets, govt surveillance, hackers, snoopers and blah blah blah are operating really smartly. We really need an encrypted tool like PureVPN or Ivacy for our online security.
