Users of Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book faced strange screen flickering issue when they bought their devices. Manual fix for that issue was found, but Microsoft now finally released an official firmware update, which resolves the screen flickering issue, and brings some other improvements to system stability and driver compatibility.

The firmware update is mainly focused on solving driver and display problems on these two devices, so people don’t have to search for solutions on their own. Here you can read the full changelog of this firmware update, and what it brings to Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book:

  • HD Graphics 520 driver update (v20.19.15.4308) – Resolves some display issues, including infamous screen flickering problem.
  • Display and audio driver update (v8.20.0.659) – Supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver.
  • Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v103.855.257.0) – Brings some more stability to the system.
  • Surface Pen Settings driver update (v10.0.302.0) – Adds support for future functionality on Windows 10.

  • Display audio driver update (v8.20.0.659) – Supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver.

  • Surface System Aggregator Firmware update (v88.853.258.0) – Improves Surface Book’s keyboard and trackpad experience.
  • Surface Pen Settings driver (v10.0.302.0) – Adds support for future functionality on Windows 10.

So if you didn’t receive this update already, just head to Windows Update and download it manually. This is a first official firmware update for Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, and it’s nice to see that Microsoft quickly brought an update which solves the most of reported problems on these new premium devices.
