Brace yourself all Halo Wars lovers: 343 Industries, the developer of Halo Wars, will be releasing a remastered version of Halo Wars 2: Definitive Edition for the Xbox One and Windows 10  this month.

There no denying that Halo Wars is a brilliantly developed, outstanding Ensemble title and was the first to tackle the genre on home consoles. Apart from the exceptional gaming experience, there is a strong backstory too along with some awesome gameplay moments.

The Halo Wars 2: Definitive Edition is to add refined graphics, more achievements and all of the original’s DLC. The date for the release is set to be December 20.

To make things a little more interesting, Microsoft has only announced the game’s availability for those who pre-order Halo Wars 2 digitally.

Check out the trailer below:

Anyone who wants to gain access to the remastered version of Halo Wars 2: Definitive Edition this month will have to pre-order the digital version of Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition. The Early Access is to be available starting December 20 on said platforms. So all-in-all, it is good to relive the original title ahead of Halo Wars 2′s release.

How to get Early Access to Halo Wars: Definitive Edition?

It will come with the standard game, a Season Pass, a four-day early access to Halo Wars 2 and Halo Wars 2: Definitive Edition. The players will get a code in their Xbox message center. The code will act as a key to redeem the Halo Wars 2: Definitive Edition. The players will be receiving the code in between seven to 10 days.

Here’s how you can get a copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition on Dec. 20:

  • Pre-order the digital version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition, which includes the standard game, Season Pass, four-day early access to Halo Wars 2 and Halo Wars: Definitive Edition.
  • Once you pre-order the digital version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition, expect to receive a 5×5 code in your Xbox message center for Halo Wars: Definitive Edition starting on Dec. 20. Codes will be sent out in waves and it may take up to 7-10 days to receive your code after Dec. 20.
  • If you pre-ordered the digital version of Halo Wars 2 Ultimate Edition from a participating retailer, redeem that code from your Xbox account and your Halo Wars: Definitive Edition code will be sent to that account. Similarly, it may take up to 7-10 days to receive your code after Dec. 20.

The offer has received mixed feedback from consumers. Some find it frustrating to pre-order a game they don’t know will be good. And even though they are exhilarated with the idea of a revamped Halo Wars edition, it’s apparently not enough to get it like this.

On the other hand, some gaming enthusiasts can take it as an opportunity to catch up on the series ahead of time. As for Halo Wars 2 itself, it will see a release on February 21, 2017.
