Microsoft just released a new firmware update for its newer Lumia devices, including the Lumia 950 and 950XL. The new firmware update doesn’t include any notable features, as it focuses on fixing system bugs, and enhancing overall performance of the device.

Microsoft announced the firmware update by posting on its Community forums. The update will also change the firmware version to 01078.00038.16025.390xx.

“The availability of this update may depend on your phone model, region or network service provider. At the time of writing this post, the update is available mainly for selected open market variants, but the rollouts should continue gradually during the coming days and weeks,” says Microsoft.

The firmware update should be available to all eligible users, but it might arrive later on some devices, because of the ‘carrier-restrictions,’ but even those users who didn’t receive the update yet, should get it in the next couple of days.

As we said, the new firmware update mainly focuses on improving the system, and fixing some existing bugs. Here’s the full changelog of the update:

  • Stability fixes.
  • Improvements for GPS reliability.
  • Improvements for call audio quality.

Microsoft has changed the way users receive firmware updates on Windows 10 Mobile devices. Namely, firmware updates are only available to users outside the Insider program, who own newer Lumia devices. If you’re eligible for receiving Windows 10 Mobile firmware updates, but you’re not sure how to download a firmware update to your phone, just read this article.

Redmond has said that it will deliver new builds and updates to both Windows 10 Preview PCs and Windows 10 Mobile phones more frequently, and now, even the firmware update for newer Lumia phones is available. We’re not sure if Microsoft will stick to the new policy even when it comes to releasing new Windows 10 Mobile firmware updates, but we’ll find out very soon.
