The Windows Store is growing day by day but there’s yet not an official touch Office app for Windows 8 users. What’s even more curious is that the iPad could actually get released earlier than the Windows Store one.
Microsoft could be making quite a lot of money if they would decide to release touch friendly versions of the Office suite for iPhone and iPad users, but we all know about the rivalry between Apple and Redmond. However, according to new reports and rumors from the industry, this moment is getting closer and closer and we already have a potential codename – Miramar. What’s even more interesting is the fact that Microsoft pundits such as Mary Jo Foley and others are claiming that it could actually get released before the Windows 8 version.
Office for Windows 8 to get released after Office for iPad
Recently, Microsoft’s Executive Vice President of Marketing Tami Reller said that Microsoft is thinking of launching new products and make the available for more platforms. And now that Steve Ballmer is no longer at the helm of Microsoft, maybe we will finally see the iPad version getting launched. The new CEO, Satya Nadella, is known to be an expert in the cloud technologies, so it’s quite possible that he will approve of such a move.
The touch-friendly Windows 8 Office application is allegedly codenamed Gemini and has been in the works since last year, but it’s not yet ready for launch. The Office team has apparently been working on the iPad version for a longer period and it’s now ready to get launched. There’s no exact date at the moment, but chances are that we will see it launch before the sixth-generation iPad.
