Password cracking and password recovery tools

What is password cracking or password recovery?

In cryptanalysis and computer security, password cracking is the process of recovering passwords from data that have been stored in or transmitted by a computer system. A common approach is to repeatedly try guesses for the password. Another common approach is to say that you have “forgotten” the password and then change it.

What is a password recovery tool?

Password recovery tools are sometimes called password cracker tools as they were used by hackers to break passwords. These tools can be very useful for recovery if you forget the password of a computer which has some important office data.

These tools can provide immediate password recovery for any protected file detected on a PC or over the network while scanning over 4,000 files per minute. This is a quick solution with the capability to perform instant decryption of hard disk images from the seized computers.

How to reset the password on your computer?

With Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, users are allowed to reset passwords from the lock screen.

Microsoft developed a very intuitive process for this. First of all, click the option on the log-in screen that says “I forgot my password”. That triggers a wizard that will guide you through the entire process. Cortana will ask for password recovery information including your phone number, your secondary email, or Microsoft Authenticator verification code.

Once the information is provided, the audit process is complete and you can choose a new password.
