HP Stream

If you’re in the market for a super-cheap, super-small tablet with Windows 8.1, HP might have the device for you. In the UK, Microsoft is offering pre-orders for the HP Stream 7 directly from their store right now for just £99. For that price, you get the tablet with Windows 8.1 and 1 year of Office 365 Personal with 1TB of OneDrive Storage, if you ask us that’s a bargain.

The HP Stream 7 isn’t designed to be a super-powerful, productive tablet. It’s a very low-end device which has been designed for web browsing, email checking, some Office work and perhaps some video playback. Apart from that, don’t expect to be doing too much with the device.

At 7 inches, it’s a small device too. The desktop will be hard to navigate, so you’ll most likely spend the majority of your time within the Modern UI environment, which isn’t bad at all. Considering the device comes with Windows 8.1 with Bing, you could theoretically run Win32 desktop applications, however we’re not too sure why you’d want to do that.

Pre-ordering from the Microsoft Store also means you’ll be receiving the Signature Edition, which mean your device will come free of all crapware HP would usually throw onto the device. This is excellent considering how low-end the device is, having crapware on top of that would slow down the device considerably.

For those wondering, the HP Stream 7 sports a 1280×800 resolution screen, 32GB onboard storage and 1GB RAM. As said above, it isn’t the most powerful spec’d device in the world, and that’s because it’s not supposed to be. We’ll be picking one of these up as soon as they’re available, which will be November 17, according to the pre-order page.
