I don’t particularly like the touch version of Skype for Windows 8, as I prefer to use the good old desktop version, but the Modern-optimized Windows 8 Skype app gets better and better. Now, version 2.5 brings some really useful new features.

The Skype app for Windows 8 has been updated multiple times since it was launched in the Windows Store, and we have previously covered an important update which brought various performance improvements and bug squashes. Now, the Skype team has improved the official touch app for Windows 8 and version 2.5 has been released. New important features has been made available and if you have turned automatic updates on, then you haven’t even noticed the improvements.

Skype app for Windows 8 gets new features

Stay connected while you shop, read, watch and work. When you do more with Skype, there’s more to talk about. -Connect how you want, when you want. Chat, hear their voice, or get together face to face all within the comfort of one app. -Snap Skype alongside other apps to get more done or play a game together while you chat.

The latest version of the Windows 8 Skype app improves your contacts experience and brings new sound options. There are three new important features that have been added with the latest update and here they are:

  • Add people – you can now add contacts from the People page.
  • Sort contacts – the ability to sort your people list by those who are online
  • Mute instant messaging sounds – IM sounds have been turned off for your current conversation
