Those of you who have installed the Windows 8.1, Windows 10 preview update to your Windows 8 device might have noticed a few minor changes. One of them is the fact that the central place of your system, which was previously called “computer”, has been changed to “this PC”.

If you remember, prior to Windows Vista, it was called “My Computer”, which reminds me of the days when I laid my hands on my first computer.

This PC name instead of Computer in Windows 8.1, Windows 10

The change doesn’t seem to have bigger implications than perhaps just a better name. Of course, if you don’t like the “This PC” change in Windows 8.1, Windows 10, you can always it rename it to make it sound more personal, like “My Super Gaming Rig” or “The Awesome PC of the Awesome Carl”.

Anyway, I thought I should inform you all out there about this change and the fact that it was probably done just to make it sound better.

Have you managed to observe some other small changes like this one? Let us know in the comments section.

  • Any suggestions on how to rename the App itself in the Start Screen and Apps Screen? I took ownership of references in Registry Editor and changed those, I changed it in file explorer, and tried giving a name to shell32.dll under apps, but still has not renamed on the App Screen/Start Screen,
