From time to time, Microsoft issues important updates through the Windows Update tool, but not all of us are aware of the changes. That’s why we’re here to let you know what’s been improved.
Consider the following scenario: You are using a Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 RT device that has a Precision Touchpad. The device enters sleep mode. To wake the device, you perform a two-finger swipe on the Precision Touchpad. In this scenario, after the computer resumes from sleep mode, you cannot use the touchpad to make the mouse pointer move. Also, any one-finger gestures that you make on the touchpad have no visible effect.
Precision Touchpad problems fixed on Windows 8.1 computers by update
So, as you can see in the above excerpt from the description page, this fix solves the problem for those Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 RT devices whose Precision Touchpad panels have stopped responding after getting out of sleep mode. Thank God, it hasn’t happened to me, but I know plenty who were complaining about this. You will need to install the update rollup KB 2955164, or install the hotfix available at this link on Microsoft’s secure servers. Also, make sure that you have installed the KB 955164 prerequisite file prior to that, as well.
This hotfix applies to Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1 users. Just as with any other hotfix, after having requested it by email, you will be able to download it. Let us know if this has fixed some of your problems with Precision Touchpad panels.
