When it hit the E3 stage just a few years ago, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare seemed like it would be a flop. Mixing the shooter genre with Pop Cap’s popular casual strategy game seemed to initially be an ill-fated concept, and nobody really knew what to think about it.
Fast forward to Garden Warfare’s release, and the game became a bit of a cult hit. While not being a masterpiece by any means, Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare managed to succeed in its goal of being an exceedingly fun game to unwind with after work, or to cool down with after a particularly frustrating match of Smite or Halo. With the success of the Plants vs. Zombies shooter, it only makes sense that EA would fund a sequel.
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 launches on Xbox One today, much to the delight of several fans of the first game and of the franchise as a whole. The game brings back the same arcade feel and colorful art style to the first person shooter genre while adding a few new features to make the game feel fresh and fun compared to its predecessor.
On top of the classic game modes that were in the original Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, the sequel introduces a new mechanic in the way of the Backyard Battleground. The Backyard Battleground serves as a hub for some of the maain features in the game, most notably the daily quests that are going to give Plants vs. Zombies 2: Garden Warfare a huge source of replayability.
Plants vs. Zombies 2: Garden Warfare is out now for Xbox One, and you can pick it up for $59.99 if you’re so inclined. If you think the price is worth it, the game promises to be a fun, casual shooter for people who want a taste of something new on their Xbox.
