Microsoft have today comfirmed that they have no plans on releasing new versions of Windows Home Server, thus making Windows Home Server 2011 the final version of Home Server. Why is this? Microsoft think Home Server has seen the greatest of success, and will implement all Home Server features into Windows Server 2012 Essentials.
“Windows Home Server has seen its greatest success in small office/home office (SOHO) environments and among the technology enthusiast community. For this reason, Microsoft is combining the features that were previously only found in Windows Home Server, such as support for DLNA-compliant devices and media streaming, into Windows Server 2012 Essentials.”
The latest version of Windows Home Server was released back in March 2011, and was titled Windows Home Server 2011. If offered a wide range of features, that are now being streamlined into the next major release of Windows Server, that being Windows Server 2012.
