Gabriel Aul, the Engineering General Manager for Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group, answered on twitter a question about the Windows 10 upgrade that many had been asking. He confirmed you will be able to perform a clean reinstall of Windows 10 at any time after upgrading with the free offer.

With the free upgrade to Windows 10 being delivered through Windows Update, some worried you wouldn’t be able to do a clean install of the new OS. Compared to a cleanly installed OS, an upgraded OS has a greater risk of issues arising and troubled performance. Problems can arise from old files and registry entries.
This led many to ask if they could perform a clean install of the Windows 10 free upgrade to make sure their device’s performance is as strong as possible with the latest OS from Microsoft. Aul has confirmed that it will be possible to do a clean reinstall at any time.
