Microsoft’s new blockchain project could be a major game changer for retailers and distribution centers. According to a report from CoinDesk, a partnership with Mojix had culminated with Microsoft’s Project Manifest becoming the next best way to track products across the globe.
Project Manifest uses technology that was first developed to help NASA communicate with deep space probes. Now it has been brought down to Earth, using Radio Frequency Identification devices to locate goods. This is particularly useful to keep products on track during the supply chain and notifying immediately once an object is lost in shipment.
This technology can furthermore ensure quality goods and services from retailers acting like a “big brother” for ethical standards.
The venture takes advantage of the IoT platform behind the scenes. The data framework is powered by a noSQL database and integrates with the ethereum blockchain. As more RFID sensor devices become adopted by multiple industries, the stronger the system will eventually become.
Project Manifest already has a lot of industry interest. It has received over $40m in funding and some clients such as British Petroleum has already implemented the service.
