Noted by Microsoft TechNet UK on Twitter, today marks the 8th birthday of Microsoft Azure. It’s an exciting moment, as the Azure division of Microsoft has definitely come far over all these years and is now among the leading sources of profit for the Redmond giant.

In fact, Microsoft saw a 56% year-over-year cloud revenue growth in the most recent quarter, driving its total $28.9 billion in revenue. Azure was a big part in this, seeing a growth of 98% in the last quarter, with Server products and cloud services revenue also growing 18%.

This popularity has been primarily been the result of the work and bets of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Since taking the reins from Steve Ballmer in 2014, Nadella positioned Azure and Microsoft as a cloud leader over Amazon and Google. Eight years has been a long time, and there are likely some more exciting profits and gains ahead for Azure and Microsoft. Happy Birthday, Azure, and cheers to more success on the road ahead.
