Microsoft’s board of directors oversees the company, influencing its strategy, overseeing and establishing the compensation for its officers, including CEO Satya Nadella, and generally acting to help steer the technology giant. Yesterday, Microsoft announced that it’s nominating two new members, Sandra Peterson and Padmasree Warrior.
Peterson serves on Johnson & Johnson’s executive committee and has held leadership roles at a number of other healthcare giants including Bayer and Merck-Medco. She also serves on the board of Dun & Bradstreet Corp. Warrior has more of a technology background, acting as strategic Advisor to Cisco Systems Inc., and holding a number of other leadership roles at Cisco, Motorola, The Gap Inc., and Box, Inc.
With the decision of current board member Dr. Maria Klawe to bow out after her current term, the Microsoft board will sit at 11 members, pending the two new members:

  • Peterson and Warrior
  • John W. Thompson, Microsoft independent chairman and chief executive officer of Virtual Instruments
  • William H. Gates, Microsoft founder and technology advisor
  • Teri List-Stoll, executive vice president and chief financial officer of DICK’S Sporting Goods Inc.
  • G. Mason Morfit, president, ValueAct Capital
  • Satya Nadella, chief executive officer, Microsoft
  • Charles H. Noski, former vice chairman of Bank of America Corp.
  • Dr. Helmut Panke, former chairman of the board of management at BMW AG
  • Charles W. Scharf, chief executive officer of Visa Inc.
  • John W. Stanton, chairman, Trilogy Equity Partners and Trilogy International Partners

There you have it: the team that will continue to lead Microsoft as it implements its “mobile-first, cloud-first” strategy. We’re sure Microsoft’s board of directors will have their hands full.
