Microsoft is making it easier to understand Edge settings related to Copilot. In the Canary version, the company has renamed the “Use Compose (AI-writing on the web)” setting under Languages to a more descriptive name that uses the Copilot branding.

Copilot has been a revelation for Microsoft. It is included everywhere in the Edge browser and is available as separate platforms and in different Microsoft services and products. Copilot has become an integral part of Windows, keyboards as well as PCs. Going forward, you can’t expect to use a Microsoft product or service without Copilot being integrated into it.

Collaborate with Copilot as you write on the web

Following the recent renaming of the Copilot sidebar setting, Microsoft is renaming the setting for Rewrite with Copilot.

The new description clarifies that it helps you write with AI to generate ideas for writing, elaborate, rewrite, change tone and format, and more, all while collaborating with Copilot as you write on the web.

The renamed setting uses simpler wording in its description to convey that it uses AI assistance to help you draft, rewrite text, and adjust styles.

Present Setting Name with Description:

Use Compose (AI-writing) on the web : When this is on, you’ll get help writing on the web with AI that allows you to generate ideas for writing, elaborate, re-write, change tone, format and more.”

New Setting name with description:

Collaborate with Copilot as you write on the web: Use AI writing assistance to help you draft, rewrite text, and adjust your style.”

Why the change?

The change makes sense. Regular users might not understand the “Compose” whereas the new setting reveals that they can utilize Copilot for writing, which they may find useful. This change highlights Copilot branding within Edge Settings.

The setting name has been changed, but the feature’s function and everything else remain the same. When you post something in a text box and select the option, “Rewrite with Copilot” will still appear to rewrite the content generated by AI.
