Since the pandemic, Microsoft Teams has been facilitating hybrid work and communication, intending to make them more seamless and inclusive than ever before, whether it is creating meaningful connections via end-to-end event platforms, large-scale one-to-many digital events, or one-to-one meetings.

Microsoft introduced a new digital streaming event solution focusing on large events, Town Hall, in September 2023, and the Redmond tech giant has been working on evolving it with new and exciting features, including bringing multiple presenters on stage, accessing real-time health analytics for events and sending attendee emails,

This time, the company discussed its plans for Teams’ digital event platforms for the upcoming year, including two big news.

Based on customer feedback, Microsoft plans to support Teams Live Events until Town Hall gets the new features mentioned on the Town Hall adoption page, which are:

  • Engagement capabilities (certain Q&A functions: voting, filters, sorting, and archive questions; export questions to CSV/download Q&A report)
  • Device capabilities (MTR-W support for presenters and attendees and CVI and VDI support)
  • Advanced production experiences (producer role, queuing shared content, and preview scenes)

This shows the company’s commitment to making the transition seamless and useful for customers. Earlier, Microsoft was planning to retire the Teams Live Events in September 2024 but according to this new update, you can continue to use it to schedule instances beyond this date.

However, the company encourages users to upgrade to Town Hall and take advantage of new features as and when they are ready for the transition.

If you want to learn more about the upcoming update and feature timelines, you can check the Town Hall adoption page. For information related to Teams Live Events plans, you can read blogs, MC posts, and other relevant channels.

To conclude, Microsoft is working on adding new features and capabilities to Town Hall to enhance the streaming digital event experience, thereby making it more impactful for presenters and attendees. The company mentioned an increase in new customers trying Town Hall, total usage, and the number of hosted events, looks like there are on the right path.
