ERROR_IS_JOIN_TARGET is followed by 133 (0x85) A JOIN or SUBST command cannot be used for a drive that contains previously joined drives message, and this is a developer error that rarely affects end users.

However, if you encounter it, you can fix it by following the instructions from this guide.

How can I fix ERROR_IS_JOIN_TARGET?

Check the logs

  1. Check your logs.
  2. Look for any error that might’ve caused issues with the Taraserver.
    taraserver logs
  3. You need to pinpoint the exact Windows error and resolve it.

This issue affects NetBackup 7.6 and TARA 15.110, and if the error occurs, the Taraserver will be terminated. If your backups are working all week long and fail on the weekends due to this error, this indicates that Tara software isn’t the problem.

ERROR_IS_JOIN_TARGET is a pretty vague and rare error that usually doesn’t affect regular users, but you might encounter it if you’re a developer or system administrator.

If that happens, your only option is to check the logs to determine which Windows error caused the issue with Taraserver and address that original issue.

We covered similar errors in the past, with the most recent being ERROR_JOIN_TO_SUBST.

We also wrote about ERROR_CALL_NOT_IMPLEMENTED and ERROR_NEGATIVE_SEEK in our previous guides, so don’t hesitate to check them out.
