windows 11 market share

According to the latest findings from web analytics firm StatCounter, in November 2024, Windows 11’s market share dropped for the first time after months of steady growth. The new data also shows that Windows 10, which just got a new update, increased its market share accordingly.

The report indicates that Windows 11 currently holds about 34.94% of the market, a decrease of 0.64 percentage points compared to October. Meanwhile, Windows 10 increased to 61.83% of the market, an increase of 0.88 percentage points.

Looking at year-over-year growth, Windows 11 increased its market share from 26.63% in November 2023 to 34.94% in November 2024 (+8.31 percentage points), while Windows 10 was at 68.02% in November 2023 and lost 6.19 percentage points over the last 12 months.

The current state of the Windows market, according to StatCounter, looks as follows:

  • Windows 10: 61.83%
  • Windows 11: 34.94%
  • Windows 7: 2.47%
  • Windows 8.1: 0.31%
  • Windows XP: 0.25%

Windows 10’s end-of-support date is in approximately 10 months, and the platform’s market share of over 61% isn’t really good. However, the Redmond-based tech giant has some tricks in its sleeve: Microsoft now plasters Windows 10 users with full-screen ads of Windows 11 and Copilot+ PCs.

It also offers the option to pay $30 for one more year of security updates if you don’t want to upgrade. There are also unofficial ways to ensure your Windows 10 is protected.

What are your thoughts on the current state of the Windows market? Are you still using Windows 10 or switched to Windows 11?
