Windows Insider Bug That’s Lingered for Years Is Finally Getting Fixed
Microsoft recently pushed update KB5073097 to the Canary Channel, delivering several fixes and improvements, but users quickly noticed a small lingering issue that has existed for years.
A bug that has followed Insiders for years
As Neowin reports, the company has now confirmed plans to address a long-standing bug affecting Windows Insider builds. Posts shared on X suggest the issue has persisted for years and even affected Windows 10, making it a familiar annoyance for long-time testers.
The problem impacts members of the Windows Insider Program, where preview builds of Windows roll out for testing ahead of public releases. While the bug does not cause major system instability, many users view the upcoming fix as a meaningful quality-of-life improvement.
Fix expected in future Dev and Beta builds
Microsoft highlighted the improvement in recent Windows Insider updates, pointing to continued refinement of preview builds based on community feedback. The company did not confirm a specific build number or timeline, but Insiders can expect the fix to arrive in upcoming Dev and Beta Channel releases.
KB5073097 is not the only update in focus this week. Microsoft also shipped KB5074109 and KB5073455, though many users reported installation errors with KB5074109, adding to recent Insider frustrations.
Despite the hiccups, Insiders remain optimistic that this long-standing bug will finally be resolved as Microsoft continues to polish future Windows preview builds.
