Malwarebytes Brings Real-Time Scam Detection to ChatGPT

We’ve seen plenty of changes around ChatGPT lately, including OpenAI dropping older models. Now, security companies appear to double down on ChatGPT as a frontline defense against scams and malware.

According to BetaNews, Malwarebytes has launched a new integration called Malwarebytes in ChatGPT, designed to help users quickly verify whether suspicious content looks like a scam.

How Malwarebytes in ChatGPT works

The new integration lets users paste potentially malicious content straight into ChatGPT. This includes emails, text messages, direct messages, links, phone numbers, and other questionable material.

ChatGPT then analyzes the content using Malwarebytes’ threat intelligence and scam detection data. It looks for phishing patterns, social engineering tactics, and other common red flags used by scammers.

The system also checks URLs and domains for reputation issues, such as newly registered or suspicious websites. Phone numbers receive similar scrutiny, with warnings tied to unusual regions or known scam activity.

Instead of giving a simple yes-or-no verdict, the tool explains why the content may pose a risk and highlights the specific warning signs it detected.

Users can help improve scam detection

Malwarebytes also allows users to contribute to its threat database by submitting suspicious content through ChatGPT. To enable the integration, users need to:

1. Sign in to ChatGPT and go to Apps.
2. Search for Malwarebytes and select Connect.
3. Use “@Malwarebytes” to check messages, emails, DMs, or other content.

This approach aims to speed up scam checks without requiring separate security software or browser extensions.

Malwarebytes in ChatGPT is available to ChatGPT Free, Plus, Team, and Enterprise users through the Apps section.

The launch comes at an interesting time for OpenAI. Reports suggest slower momentum for some projects, including Sora AI, while Jensen Huang recently clarified that NVIDIA does not need to commit $100 billion to OpenAI upfront, preferring a gradual investment approach instead.
