Acer and ASUS Take Down German Support Sites Amid HEVC Dispute, Users Left in Limbo

If you live in Germany and are looking to buy laptops from the official Acer and ASUS websites, sadly, both companies have taken their respective websites offline. That comes after a German court asked both the laptop makers to temporarily stop selling their PCs in the country, following an ongoing patent dispute involving Nokia.

Germany remains one of Europe’s largest PC markets, but the sudden shutdown of regional support pages has left customers unable to access drivers, BIOS files, firmware downloads, and even warranty information. The issue reportedly stems from a legal dispute over HEVC-related patents, which has resulted in a temporary injunction affecting how the companies operate locally.

According to user reports, visitors to Acer and ASUS Germany sites are being redirected or blocked entirely (via Videocardz). In some cases, attempts to access non-German regional pages from within Germany trigger an error page. That means existing customers, including those who simply need a routine driver update, are effectively locked out of official support channels.

Rather than limiting sales or specific products, ASUS and Acer have both disabled entire sections of their German websites. Acer’s landing page reportedly displays a service interruption notice, while ASUS references a Munich Regional Court decision as the source of the temporary measure. However, when we tried to access the German website from India, we were hit by the following message.

With no clear timeline for resolution in sight, German consumers may want to download important updates through alternative methods suggested by Computerbase.
