Microsoft Upgrades Windows 11's Task Manager With KB5079492 (Dev) & KB5079491 (Beta) Updates
Microsoft has released two new builds, one each, for Windows 11 Dev and Beta channel Insiders. The latest update for Dev channel, KB5079492, bumps system to Build 26300.8142. Meanwhile, those on Beta channel are getting KB5079491 that bumps the system to Build 26220.8138.
Besides adding Administrator Protection toggle and a separate Touchpad setting for better control, both builds also bring some much-needed Task Manager improvements.
First, Microsoft is updating Task Manager to provide better insight into NPU usage for PCs that include NPU. After installing one of the aforementioned updates, Insiders see new optional NPU and NPU Engine columns on the Processes, Users, and Details pages.
Next, the Details page also adds NPU Dedicated Memory and NPU Shared Memory optional columns to give you deeper visibility into how workloads are using NPU resources. Additionally, if there are neural engines that are part of a GPU, they will now appear on the Performance page. This will offer a more complete view of AI‑related system activity.
Last but not least, Task Manager is also getting a new optional Isolation column to the Processes and Details pages, which allows you to see which apps are running in an AppContainer. Microsoft further notes that once these changes are available to you, you can add any of the new columns by right‑clicking a column header in Task Manager and selecting them from the menu.
