Xbox to Offer "Closer Look at Project Helix" At Today's Game Dev Spring '26 Showcase
Xbox’s next-gen console, codenamed Project Helix, might still be far away, but if you have been eager for more details, don’t forget to tune into today’s Game Dev Spring ’26 Update showcase. In a blog post published in late April, Microsoft hinted that today’s showcase will offer a closer look at Project Helix, the company’s next-generation Xbox hardware that will succeed the Xbox Series X|S consoles. The company has confirmed that the first episode of the Game Dev Update will air on its YouTube channel today, May 7 at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EDT / 6 PM CEST.
Xbox’s next-generation Project Helix console will focus on Xbox, PC, and future DirectX technologies
As previously announced, Project Helix is powered by a custom AMD-based SoC and is being co-designed alongside the next generation of DirectX technologies. As Microsoft puts it, “Project Helix will create new opportunities for you to optimize build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently.”
At GDC 2026, Xbox VP Jason Ronald first teased Project Helix during a “Building for the Future with Xbox” session. During that presentation, Ronald explained that the next-generation hardware would function as a platform for both Xbox and PC games.
Microsoft also confirmed at the time that developer kits for the system would not begin shipping until 2027. Though, there’s still no update on the launch timeline of the next-gen Xbox console. However, in a recent interview, Asha Sharma confirmed that memory costs “will impact” the pricing and availability of Project Helix.
Ever since Asha Sharma assumed the role of Xbox CEO, Project Helix has been in the spotlight. Not to forget, the company has previously also confirmed that Project Helix is a first-party console, whereas leaks and rumors have hinted that Project Helix could rival high-end gaming PCs. When Project Helix was first officially teased, Asha Sharma also claimed that the next-gen Xbox console would “lead in performance.” Well, we expect to hear more about Project Helix at today’s event. And, if there’s anything new, we’ll update you through new articles.
