Facebook is experiencing a major outage that has left users around the world unable to access parts of the social network and its related services, according to Independent. Reports began surfacing early Friday morning, with the disruption appearing to start around 6:45 a.m. Pacific Time.

Users attempting to access Facebook through the web are encountering error messages and pages that fail to load. In many cases, Facebook is displaying a basic error page that resembles older versions of the platform, indicating that the service is currently unavailable.

The outage appears to affect several Facebook services, including Messenger. Many users report difficulties sending messages, loading conversations, or accessing account features. Social media platforms quickly filled with complaints as users searched for information about the disruption.

Instagram and WhatsApp Also Showing Problems

While Meta’s other major platforms initially appeared to remain online, some issues have also been reported on Instagram and WhatsApp.

The mobile applications for both services appear to be functioning for many users, but the web versions have experienced intermittent failures. Visitors to Instagram.com and WhatsApp Web have reported error messages, incomplete page loads, and connection issues.

At the time of writing, Meta has not confirmed whether the problems affecting Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are linked to the same underlying issue.

Cause Remains Unknown

Meta has not yet provided an official explanation for the outage. The company has also not announced an estimated timeline for full service restoration.

Large-scale outages can be caused by a variety of factors, including infrastructure failures, network configuration problems, software deployment issues, or disruptions affecting backend systems. However, no evidence currently points to a specific cause.

Users continue to report new incidents as the outage remains ongoing.

Xbox Network Services Also Reporting Problems

The Facebook disruption is not the only major online service issue being reported today. Users have also flagged problems affecting Xbox Network Services.

Reports indicate that some Xbox players are experiencing connectivity issues, including difficulties signing in, accessing online features, or connecting to multiplayer services.

It remains unclear whether the Xbox-related issues are connected in any way to the Facebook outage. At this stage, there is no indication that the two incidents share a common cause.
