Latest Windows 11 Beta 26H1 Build Releases With K-12 Upgrade and File Explorer Fixes

Windows 11 laptop

Microsoft has rolled out a new, Build 28020.2380, for Windows 11 Insiders in the Beta (26H1) Channel, and while it isn’t packed with new features, it does introduce an important upgrade path for schools alongside a handful of bug fixes aimed at improving the overall experience.

Windows 11 Beta Build 28020.2380 brings a new education upgrade path

The biggest addition in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.2380 is focuses on education customers. Microsoft has introduced a free upgrade path from Windows 11 Home to Windows 11 Pro Education for eligible K-12 organizations.

The new process allows schools to purchase devices running Windows 11 Home and upgrade them to the Pro Education edition without paying additional licensing costs. To begin the upgrade, users must first sign in using a local account, launch an elevated Command Prompt, run the Clipupgrade.exe command, and then sign in with their eligible K-12 organization account.

After validation, Windows prepares the upgrade and completes the process following a restart.Microsoft notes that the migration is one-way only. Once upgraded to Windows 11 Pro Education, users cannot return to Windows 11 Home without performing a clean operating system installation.Beyond the education changes, the update also includes several quality improvements.

Microsoft has fixed an issue where the OneDrive shortcut inside File Explorer stopped working whenever File Explorer was launched with administrator privileges. The company has also resolved a bug affecting Outlook, where some users found the application refusing to close properly after clicking the close button.

A smaller update focused on reliability

Unlike recent Insider releases that introduced new Windows experiences, Build 28020.2380 focuses primarily on stability rather than major feature additions. Microsoft describes that this release also comes with small collection of improvements designed to refine the experience for Beta Channel testers.

In addition to this build, Windows 11 Insiders also get an Experimental build with Cloud Rebuild recovery option. That’s not all; the other Experimental build (26H1) adds movabale taskbar support, while the regular Beta build focuses in cutting monthly reboots.
