NVIDIA, Microsoft, IBM & Others Unite to Form Open Secure AI Alliance for Safer AI

NVIDIA has kicked off a new industry-wide effort to make AI safer. The company has formed the Open Secure AI Alliance, bringing together dozens of major technology firms to develop open security tools for the AI era. The initiative includes companies such as Microsoft, Adobe, Cisco, IBM, Cloudflare, Salesforce, Dell Technologies, Hugging Face, SAP, HPE, Red Hat, Databricks and several others.

Alliance focuses on open AI security instead of closed ecosystems

Unlike projects centered on building new AI models, this alliance aims to strengthen the security surrounding them. Members will collaborate on open models, testing frameworks, agent harnesses and defensive tools that organizations can inspect, customize and deploy themselves.

NVIDIA says cyber defenders need access to both open and closed AI systems. However, it argues that open security tools offer greater transparency and eliminate dependence on a single provider.

The company pointed to a recent Hugging Face security incident. During the attack, Hugging Face reportedly relied on an open AI model running on its own infrastructure after closed AI services couldn’t complete critical forensic analysis.

NVIDIA contributes new open AI research

As part of the initiative, NVIDIA is contributing open models, model weights, datasets and agent research. The company also announced NVIDIA Labs Object-Oriented Agent (NOOA), a new open-source research project on GitHub.

NOOA is designed to help developers test, audit and govern AI agents more effectively. Other alliance members are also contributing security technologies, including Microsoft’s multi-agent vulnerability scanning framework, Hugging Face’s Safetensors format, IBM and Red Hat’s signed software patching system, and HPE’s zero-trust identity standards.

NVIDIA also urged governments to treat open AI security tools as defensive assets rather than risks. The company believes restricting open AI could weaken cyber defenses and concentrate security in a handful of closed platforms. The Open Secure AI Alliance is now inviting more companies, researchers and governments to join its effort to build open, trustworthy AI security for the future.
