Is Grok Down Right Now? Many Report Seeing "Web server" Error

If Grok suddenly stopped answering your prompts today, you’re definitely not the only one. Users on X have started flooding outage trackers with fresh complaints. Most reports point to server problems instead of issues with individual devices. As of now, xAI has not officially acknowledged the outage.

According to Downdetector, reports climbed sharply within minutes this afternoon. At the time of writing, the outage tracker shows more than 1,600 user reports against a normal baseline of just four. That unusually large spike suggests the disruption is affecting a significant number of users rather than isolated accounts.

Most users say Grok either refuses to load conversations or gets stuck while generating responses. Others report connection failures immediately after opening the chatbot. Some users also mention receiving generic error messages before being disconnected from the service.

Interestingly, the outage hits hours after Elon Musk shared a post highlighting a new Grok Build update. The latest release mainly focuses on quality improvements, including faster model switching, refreshed Changes panels after commits, and more accurate background task logging. However, xAI has not indicated that the update is responsible for today’s disruption.

That being said, there is currently no evidence linking the rollout of the latest Grok Build to the reported outage. Software updates and temporary service interruptions often happen around the same time without being directly connected. Until xAI provides an official explanation, the exact cause remains unknown.

This also is not the first time Grok has experienced service issues. Previous outages have temporarily prevented users from accessing chats, generating responses, or using advanced AI features before normal service eventually returned.

As of writing, Downdetector continues showing elevated reports, indicating the issue has not been fully resolved. If Grok isn’t working for you, the problem is likely on xAI’s servers rather than your internet connection or device.

This is a developing story…
