OpenAI's 'Doughnut-Shaped' ChatGPT Speaker Could Be Priced at Up to $400, 2027 Launch Tipped

In the past, we’ve come across bunch of reports about OpenAI developing its first-ever smartphone. It seems the company isn’t just looking enter the smartphone market, but it is also targeting smart home users. According to a new report, OpenAI appears to be working on a premium ChatGPT-powered smart speaker.

The news comes via Bloomberg, which it the report claims that OpenAI’s first smart home product will be roughly the size of a hockey puck. The report claims the speaker features a donut-shaped body with a center opening for easier carrying between rooms.

The premium ChatGPT speaker apparently also comes with cameras and moving parts. The device reportedly includes a built-in battery, allowing it to work away from a power outlet. A motorized section of the casing is also said to move, providing visual feedback while interacting with ChatGPT.

Bloomberg further claims the speaker includes a camera and additional sensors. These would let ChatGPT recognize objects and respond to questions about the surrounding environment. An LED indicator reportedly lights up whenever the device is actively listening.

The hardware is also expected to feature premium speakers, microphones, and high-end metal construction. Former Apple design chief Jony Ive is reportedly helping shape the product’s design.

That premium approach may come at a cost. Bloomberg notes the ChatGPT speaker could sell for $300 to $400, placing it above devices like Amazon’s Echo Studio. The report also points to a 2027 launch window, although OpenAI has yet to officially confirm the product or its specifications.
