OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Business Premium Seats With 5x More Usage & No 5-Hour Limit
OpenAI is giving ChatGPT Business users a new option for teammates who constantly hit usage limits. Premium seats offer five times more usage than Standard seats and remove the five-hour usage limit.
The catch is the price. Premium costs $125 per user monthly, or $100 per user monthly with annual billing, compared with $25 and $20 for Standard seats.
Business teams can mix Standard and Premium
OpenAI says companies can now mix Standard and Premium seats inside the same Business workspace. Owners can assign, reassign, upgrade, or remove capacity as team requirements change.
That makes the setup more targeted than simply upgrading everyone. Heavy ChatGPT users can receive Premium capacity while lighter users remain on Standard seats.
Both seat types include ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. Premium mainly increases the available usage capacity for teammates doing heavier work. OpenAI also says Premium includes predictable weekly usage resets. If users still reach limits, workspace owners can purchase shared credits for additional usage.
The price difference is significant
A Standard seat costs $20 monthly when billed annually. Premium costs $100 annually billed monthly, creating a 5x price difference alongside the advertised 5x usage increase.
For a five-person team, five Premium seats would cost $500 monthly with annual billing. A mixed setup could therefore make more sense for businesses with only a few heavy users.
OpenAI initially promoted a limited offer for eligible Business workspace owners. Qualifying customers could receive $100 in workspace credits per Premium seat, capped at $500.
The company introduced Premium seats after Business customers reportedly asked for greater capacity. The move also gives OpenAI another way to monetize teams with demanding workloads.
