Microsoft Teams Meeting Transcripts to Soon Get New Profanity Filtering Control for Admins

Microsoft Teams has been getting a few useful features lately and has some useful ones on the way. Now, the company seems to be offering new control for organizations handling live transcriptions and saved meeting transcripts. The upcoming change will let administrators decide whether profane words remain masked. Microsoft is keeping filtering enabled by default.

Admins get the final say on transcript filtering

Teams administrators will be able to use a meeting policy to control profanity masking. The policy applies to both live transcription and saved transcripts. When filtering stays enabled, profane words continue appearing masked in those transcripts. That remains the default behavior.

However, an organizer assigned a policy with filtering disabled can allow unmasked profanity. Those words can then appear directly in the live and saved transcript. This gives organizations another way to decide how meeting content should appear after conversations are transcribed.

It should be noted that there’s between transcripts and live captions. Turning off transcript filtering will not change each participant’s existing profanity setting for live captions. That means the new administrator control focuses specifically on transcription behavior. Participants’ current caption settings continue to determine what appears in live captions.

Microsoft lists the feature under AI at Work Roadmap ID 570467. The company plans to kick off the roll out this feature to Android, desktop, iOS, Mac, and web starting October 2026. All that said, the profanity filtering control should give Teams administrators more control over how potentially sensitive language is preserved in meeting records.
