Windows 11 Experimental (Future Platforms) Build 29667 Improves Taskbar, Run, Wi-Fi, and Remote Desktop

Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 29667.1000 is now available for Windows Insiders testing future platform changes, bringing Emoji 17.0 support, Arm64 upgrade fixes, and several reliability improvements.

The Experimental release arrives alongside Windows 11 Insider Beta Preview Build 26220.9472 and Beta 26H1 Preview Build 28020.2991.

Arm64 upgrade problems get a fix

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 29667.1000 with a fix for an issue that prevented some Arm64 PCs from upgrading to newer Insider builds.

Affected systems could begin installing an update before automatically rolling back. Microsoft notes that error 0xc1900101 is a generic upgrade error, so users may still encounter it for unrelated reasons.

Emoji 17.0 arrives on Windows 11

The build also introduces support for Emoji 17.0.

The new emoji set includes additions such as distorted face, fight cloud, and hairy creature, expanding the emoji available to Windows 11 users.

Remote Desktop, Wi-Fi, and touchpad fixes

Microsoft fixed a Remote Desktop issue that could trigger graphics card error 0x11 for some Insiders.

The company also addressed a networking problem that prevented certain users from connecting to some Wi-Fi network types after installing recent updates.

Another fix removes an unexpected “The service to detect this status is disabled” message that could appear in Network and Sharing Center.

For laptop users, Microsoft fixed a problem that caused pinch-to-zoom touchpad gestures to stop working correctly in some applications.

Taskbar, Run, and Settings improve

Microsoft says it improved system tray loading reliability on the Windows 11 taskbar.

The modern Run dialog should also work more reliably after installing the build.

Microsoft has also expanded gamepad support in Settings. Users can now navigate the Bluetooth Quick Settings page with a game controller.

VMware users may run into problems

Microsoft is investigating two VMware-related issues in this Experimental release.

VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.4 may display a blank window when users reopen a virtual machine after creating and closing it.

Some Insiders have also reported VMware devices triggering green screen crashes.

Microsoft says it is investigating fixes for future builds.

The update includes additional general reliability and Windows experience improvements.

Insiders running Windows 11 26H1 also have another update available, as Windows 11 Build 28000.3079 recently reached the Release Preview Channel.
