Microsoft’s October 7 Event Will Put Windows, Surface, and Local AI Center Stage

Microsoft has announced a Windows and Surface event for October 7 in San Francisco, with local AI expected to take center stage, according to Engadget. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Windows and Devices EVP Pavan Davuluri, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will participate.

According to Microsoft’s invitation, the event will cover developments across Windows, NVIDIA RTX Spark, Surface, and the broader PC ecosystem. The company could also reveal more about its plans to run larger AI models directly on Windows PCs instead of relying entirely on cloud inference.

Microsoft could push more AI processing onto Windows PCs

Microsoft’s upcoming hardware could allow developers and other users to run more advanced AI workloads locally, keeping more processing on the PC.

One potential use case is AI-assisted software development, where coding models could operate locally without constantly consuming cloud-based AI credits.

The approach is similar to the recently announced Perplexity Portable Computer, which brings local agentic AI workloads to compatible NVIDIA RTX PCs.

Surface Laptop Ultra pricing and release details could arrive

Microsoft announced the Surface Laptop Ultra in June, powered by NVIDIA’s RTX Spark platform.

NVIDIA previously said the first RTX Spark Windows PCs will begin arriving in October, making Microsoft’s October 7 event a possible venue for additional availability and pricing details.

Microsoft has not confirmed that it will announce those details at the event, however. The company has also yet to reveal pricing or exact release dates for the Surface Laptop Ultra or Surface RTX Spark Dev Box.

The October event should provide a clearer look at how Microsoft plans to combine Windows, Surface hardware, and NVIDIA’s AI platform as it pushes more AI processing directly onto PCs.
