Windows 11 KB5124006 Introduces Autopilot Device Association, File History Fixes, and More

Microsoft has released KB5124006 preview for those using Windows 11 26H1. Alongside movable taskbar, Start Menu changes, and bunch of security improvements, Microsoft has also confirmed that Windows Autopilot device preparation device association is now generally available for irganizations. The company says this can help identify trusted devices before enrollment and enable device-targeted policies and automatic corporate device enrollment.

There are also improvements for VPN-related background issues, the netsh wlan show wlanreport command for Japanese users, Japanese IME reliability and voice typing settings.

Microsoft additionally notes that WMIC is no longer included in Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2, with WMI itself remaining supported.

KB5124006 also fixes several Windows 11 problems

The normal rollout portion of the update includes improvements to accessibility and localization for the Intelligent Carveout interface.

Microsoft also fixes an issue affecting File History, where backups or restores to an external drive or network location could fail and incorrectly show a “Reconnect your drive” message even when the backup drive was connected and working.

There are known issues too. Microsoft says some domain-joined devices might lose their secure trust relationship with the domain, while certain USB Audio Class 1.0 devices can show Code 10 or have no audio output.

Do note that KB5124006 is a preview update, so Microsoft is delivering its new experiences through gradual and normal rollout phases. Users can find the optional update through Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
