Microsoft Is Removing Copilot From the Teams Chat List

Microsoft is removing the Copilot entry point from the Teams chat list, making the Copilot app in the left-side apps bar the main way to access the assistant.

Microsoft outlined the change in Microsoft 365 Message Center advisory MC1477999.

Microsoft is decluttering the Teams chat list

Microsoft says removing Copilot from the chat list will simplify the Teams interface and provide a more consistent way to open and leave Copilot.

The change affects Teams on desktop and web, while the mobile experience will remain unchanged.

Microsoft is only removing the chat-list entry point. Existing Copilot conversations, user data, and notifications will remain available.

Teams will direct users to the Copilot app

Before Microsoft removes the Copilot chat-list entry, Teams will display a coachmark directing users to the Copilot app in the apps bar.

If a user has unpinned Copilot from the sidebar, Teams will explain how to find it through the app overflow menu.

The change does not remove Copilot itself or affect existing conversations.

Microsoft starts removing it in mid-October

Microsoft plans to begin retiring the Teams chat-list Copilot entry point in mid-October 2026.

The rollout should finish by the end of October.

Microsoft will enforce the change server-side, and administrators and users will not have an option to keep the old chat-list entry point.

In other news, Microsoft is also changing Teams Events licensing, placing advanced event features behind Enterprise plans.

The company is also adding a feature that can automatically block identified bots from joining Teams meetings.

Microsoft is making changes to Planner as well, with inactive Teams Planner plans set for deletion after 180 days.
