Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5.5 is Now Available in Microsoft Foundry

Yesterday, Anthropic unveiled Claude Sonnet 5.5, and as Microsoft does every time, the latest model is now available in Foundry with pricing starting at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 focuses on coding and knowledge work

Microsoft says Claude Sonnet 5.5 is designed to deliver stronger results than Sonnet 5 while using fewer tokens for most tasks. That combination is expected to give developers a better balance between model quality, speed and cost.

The model is handy for well-scoped coding tasks that form part of a larger development workflow. Developers can use it to build and fix features within the same coding session, verify implementations against requirements and handle everyday coding and knowledge-work tasks.

Microsoft also says Sonnet 5.5 is designed for increasingly modular AI agent systems, where individual models need to complete specific tasks reliably and efficiently before handing work to another part of the workflow.

Microsoft Foundry gets another Claude option for AI developers

Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available through Global Standard and US Datazone deployments, hosted on Azure, as well as Global Standard through Anthropic infrastructure. Microsoft describes the model as a more efficient Sonnet that can complete many tasks with fewer tokens, meaning developers may be able to handle more complex workloads without automatically increasing model usage.
