Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says Xbox and PlayStation can remain competitors while continuing to work together as the two companies become increasingly interconnected.

Xbox and PlayStation can compete and collaborate

Sharma said that “competition and collaboration can coexist” between Xbox and Sony.

That relationship has become more visible as Xbox franchises such as Halo and Gears have appeared on PS5, while Helldivers 2 has launched on Xbox.

Sharma indicated that Xbox plans to continue working with Sony even as both companies compete for players, games, and publishing deals.

Xbox takes over Physint

The comments come shortly after Xbox took over publishing duties for Physint, the upcoming stealth game from Hideo Kojima’s studio.

PlayStation Studios stepped away from the project before Xbox became its new publisher.

According to The New York Times, Xbox’s deal for Physint is substantially below what the company would typically spend to develop a premium game.

Sharma reacts to Xbox securing Physint

When asked whether Xbox should apologize to Sony for acquiring Physint, Sharma reportedly laughed, shrugged, and said she was happy Kojima chose to work with Xbox.

PlayStation Studios had already decided to leave the project before Xbox stepped in.

Xbox and PlayStation still compete for major games

The growing cooperation between Xbox and PlayStation has not ended their competition.

Both companies continue to compete for major games, publishing agreements, and platform releases, even as more titles cross between Xbox and PlayStation hardware.

In other news, Asha Sharma says “Xbox is not for sale”, pushing back against reports that Microsoft could consider selling its gaming business.
