PlayGTA5 Goes Down After Free GTA 5 Browser Port Takes the Internet by Storm

An unofficial project that recently allowed users to play Grand Theft Auto V directly in a web browser appears to have disappeared. The website playgta5.com is currently no longer offering the game, with reports saying visitors are instead seeing an error, a blank page, or a short message.

The site went viral since this morning after gameplay videos showed GTA V running directly inside Google Chrome. One demonstration from Pixel Gamer 4K showed the game running on an Apple M3 Pro system, with the browser reportedly downloading around 700MB of assets before gameplay began.

Unlike traditional cloud gaming, reports suggested the project was running the game locally inside the browser, potentially using WebAssembly and browser hardware acceleration. Some users also claimed the port supported smartphones, although the technical details have not been independently confirmed.

Now, however, the project appears to be gone. Reddit users who had been playing it earlier in the day began reporting that the website stopped working. Some users speculated that Rockstar’s lawyers had intervened, while others blamed Cloudflare. As of now, the site seems to be throwing an error that reads “site’s DNS address couldn’t be found.”

There is no official confirmation from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive that it ordered the site to be taken down. Also, it seems that the project was also never an official Rockstar release. Reports claimed it may have relied on leaked GTA V source code, but that claim has not been officially confirmed either.

Disclaimer: We do not recommend visiting or using unofficial websites offering GTA V through browser-based ports. As of now, it seems the project is not an official Rockstar Games release, and its current status and legality have not been independently confirmed.
