ChatGPT Meetings Plugin Goes Beyond Notes and Can Now Handle Follow-Up Work

OpenAI is making ChatGPT Meetings more useful by going beyond simply recording conversations and generating summaries. The new Meetings plugin can now turn discussions into suggested action items and let users start that follow-up work directly from the meeting page.

ChatGPT can turn meeting notes into follow-up work

The Meetings plugin uses the meeting transcript, personal notes and relevant context from connected apps to create a personalized summary and suggest follow-up tasks. Those tasks can include drafting an email, updating a project plan or handling other work discussed during the meeting.

After the meeting, users can review and edit each suggested action item before starting it with a single click. That’s where ChatGPT Work comes into play, allowing ChatGPT to actually work on the follow-up instead of leaving users with another to-do list.

The Meetings plugin is currently available in beta through the ChatGPT desktop app on macOS for Pro and Business users. Business users need their workspace administrator to enable ChatGPT Space and the Meetings plugin. Support for iOS, Android and Windows is coming soon.

Meetings can also detect when you’re in a call even if it isn’t on your connected calendar. With calendar integration and meeting reminders enabled, ChatGPT can remind you about upcoming meetings and prompt you to start or stop taking notes. Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar are supported for these reminders.

Your meeting audio is deleted after processing

OpenAI says Meetings uses microphone and system audio from a Mac to create the meeting notes. Once processing is complete, the audio is deleted from both the Mac and OpenAI’s servers and cannot be replayed. Meeting pages are private by default, while shared users can see the notes but not the underlying transcript.

Meetings can also automatically stop recording when the laptop lid is closed, when no audio is detected for an extended period, or when a session reaches four hours. For anyone who regularly walks away from meetings with a pile of follow-ups, the biggest change here is simple. ChatGPT can now take those meeting decisions and start turning them into actual work.
