Microsoft has finally revealed all the details about the Surface Laptop Ultra, and it’s not just some simple upgrade over your regular Surface Laptop. The new laptop is designed for developers, creators, engineers and power users who need serious graphics and local AI performance in a traditional laptop form factor.

Surface Laptop Ultra Specs

The Surface Laptop Ultra features a 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, up to 2,000 nits peak HDR brightness and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. Under the hood, Microsoft’s new laptop is powered by NVIDIA RTX Spark, combining an Arm-based CPU with Blackwell RTX graphics and NVIDIA AI acceleration. The platform can be configured with up to a 20-core CPU, 6,144 GPU cores and 128GB of unified memory. Storage starts at 512GB SSD and can be configured up to 2TB, giving users more room for large creative projects, development environments, games and AI workloads.

Surface Laptop Ultra Performance

Performance is clearly the main reason this Surface exists. Microsoft says the Laptop Ultra has 2.5 times the thermal capacity of existing Surface notebooks and can maintain more than 99% of its performance while running on battery. The NVIDIA hardware also brings CUDA support, ray tracing, DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex, making the machine suitable for local AI, 3D rendering, engineering workloads, video editing and gaming. At today’s Surface and Windows event, Microsoft demonstrated the laptop running demanding workloads including Blender, ComfyUI and Gears of War: E-Day, while AI tasks were running alongside them.

Surface Laptop Ultra Battery

Microsoft has not yet provided a final battery-life figure for the Surface Laptop Ultra. Instead, the company is emphasizing sustained performance away from the charger. That 99% performance claim could be interesting for creators and developers who need consistent performance when working away from a desk, although real-world battery life will depend heavily on workload and configuration.

Surface Laptop Ultra Storage and Ports

The laptop starts with 512GB of SSD storage and goes up to 2TB. Connectivity is also a major upgrade, with three USB-C ports supporting USB4, one USB-A port, HDMI, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an SD card reader. Microsoft has also introduced Magnetic Connect, a magnetic USB-C charging system that provides a MagSafe-style connection while retaining standard USB-C functionality.
