Microsoft is developing a redesigned Xbox PC app that promises faster performance, simpler navigation, and better controller support, according to Windows Central.

Internally codenamed Garrison, the new app could reach Xbox Insiders before the end of 2026. The redesign focuses on improving the existing experience rather than introducing major new features.

Redesigned Xbox PC app delivers major performance improvements

Early testing reportedly shows significant performance improvements over the current Xbox PC app, particularly when loading large game libraries.

A library containing more than 1,400 Xbox titles reportedly loads much faster, while switching between game listings feels more responsive.

Microsoft has also combined Store listings and game library pages into a single interface, making navigation simpler. The redesign clearly separates games available for installation from titles that users can only access through Xbox Cloud Gaming.

The interface supports both mouse and keyboard controls and controller-based navigation.

Better integration with Windows 11 and gaming handhelds

The redesigned Xbox app also integrates with Windows 11’s new Game Mode, allowing users to set it as their default home screen.

When users launch this mode, the app automatically switches to a controller-friendly interface, making it particularly useful for handheld gaming devices such as the Xbox Ally.

Early versions of the redesigned app reportedly already ship with some Windows 11 builds, suggesting Microsoft has started integrating the interface into its gaming ecosystem.

Xbox Insiders could get early access soon

Microsoft has not announced an official release date, but the redesigned Xbox PC app could enter Xbox Insider testing in the coming weeks.

The interface remains under development, and some Microsoft Store pages are not yet fully functional.

It also remains unclear whether Microsoft plans to introduce additional community features, user reviews, or improved communication tools for developers.

In other gaming news, XBOX has introduced a new XP division to expand its franchises beyond gaming, while Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has outlined major plans for PC gaming and Battle.net. The latest Xbox Free Play Days lineup has also been revealed.
