Microsoft Entra is getting a fresh batch of security and identity management upgrades. The October 2026 update brings stronger access controls, simpler provisioning, and new tools for managing enterprise identities. The changes also reflect Microsoft’s growing focus on securing AI agents operating across organizations.

Microsoft Entra adds stronger access controls and workload security

One notable addition is Universal Continuous Access Evaluation support for more security signals in Global Secure Access. The feature can now respond to user risk and device changes, including deleted, disabled, or noncompliant devices. This capability is currently available in public preview.

Microsoft has also made service-to-service token binding generally available for supported managed identity workloads. Using mutual TLS proof of possession, the feature cryptographically binds access tokens to their originating workloads. Initially, it supports eligible workloads accessing Azure Key Vault through compatible .NET libraries.

Windows users also get a smoother device registration experience when signing in to applications protected by Conditional Access token protection. Meanwhile, ServiceNow users can request access packages and track requests directly within the platform. Approvers can also review requests without leaving ServiceNow.

Cloud Sync migration and provisioning get easier

Several updates focus on reducing everyday identity management complexity. Microsoft Entra now offers a guided migration path from Entra Connect Sync to Cloud Sync. Administrators can assess readiness, configure provisioning, transition workloads, and validate the environment.

The company is also previewing Workload Identity-based authentication for SAP SuccessFactors provisioning. It replaces long-lived passwords with managed credentials and short-lived access tokens. This arrives ahead of SAP SuccessFactors’ planned basic authentication deprecation in November 2026.

Other preview features include clearing empty attribute values during provisioning, generating unique aliases through custom call-outs, and discovering application groups. Microsoft-managed certificates for TLS inspection in Global Secure Access are also entering public preview.

Microsoft is preparing Entra for AI agents

Microsoft says identity and network access will be foundational to securing AI agents. At Microsoft Ignite, scheduled for November 17-20, the company plans to share more about Entra and Agent 365. These updates show Microsoft is expanding identity security while simplifying enterprise access management. However, several features remain in public preview rather than general availability.
