PSBox App Brings Xbox Cloud Gaming to Jailbroken PS5 Consoles
Gears of War: E-Day has found an unofficial route onto PlayStation 5, despite lacking a native PS5 version. A new homebrew app lets owners of jailbroken consoles stream the Xbox game through Microsoft’s cloud gaming service.
PSBox Cloud Gaming brings Xbox streaming to PS5
The app, called PSBox Cloud Gaming, has appeared on GitHub as an unofficial Xbox Cloud Gaming client. Tom’s Hardware appears to have first reported on it and notes that the app can stream games at up to 1080p and 60fps, bringing Xbox titles to modified Sony consoles.
The app’s interface reportedly includes separate sections for the Game Pass catalog, owned games, and Xbox Remote Play. Users can sign in to their Microsoft accounts through a code or QR code, avoiding direct password entry on the console.
The DualSense controller also works, although the app reportedly identifies it as an Xbox controller. Players can use AMD FSR 1 or Anime4K to upscale the streamed image, but this does not turn the experience into native 4K rendering.
Jailbreaking the PS5 comes with a major catch
The biggest limitation is that PSBox Cloud Gaming requires a jailbroken PS5. Modifying the console can mean losing access to PlayStation Network services, making this workaround unsuitable for many players. The app is also unofficial, and its compatibility could change. There are technical trade-offs, too. The reported setup lacks native 4K streaming and HDR, while image quality and responsiveness depend on the internet connection and cloud service. Players also need access to Xbox Cloud Gaming and an eligible game.
This is not an official PS5 release, by the way
Microsoft lists Gears of War: E-Day for Xbox Series X|S and PC, with cloud gaming available through supported Xbox services. The game is not officially available as a native PS5 title. For now, PSBox Cloud Gaming offers a workaround for enthusiasts willing to modify their consoles. However, Xbox and PC remain the straightforward options for playing E-Day without these limitations.
