Xbox fans could finally get a reason to revisit their gaming memories, and this time, the recap looks much bigger. The company appears to be testing Xbox Playback, a new experience that could replace the missing Year in Review feature. The reveal comes just weeks before Xbox celebrates its 25th anniversary.

Xbox Playback could cover your entire gaming journey

The screenshot showing Xbox Playback was first shared by Better xCloud developer @redphx on X. Apparently, Xbox’s “Year in Review” page is reportedly being replaced by “Playback” page, although it remains unavailable to general public.

Unlike the traditional annual recap, Xbox Playback appears designed to revisit your history across the platform’s 25-year journey. The leaked screenshot reportedly highlights your most-played game, total playtime, number of games played, and rarest achievement.

The experience also appears to dig into older memories. Players could see their first Xbox console, first achievement, first game, and the first title they completed with 100% achievements. Other statistics reportedly include total Gamerscore, top gaming genre, and the year with the most playtime.

That sounds like a much more personal way to celebrate Xbox’s anniversary. Instead of focusing exclusively on recent gaming activity, the feature could remind longtime players how their habits have changed over the years.

Microsoft has yet to announce Xbox Playback

Xbox skipped its traditional Year in Review feature in 2025, leaving players to rely on third-party alternatives. The apparent return could therefore be welcome news for anyone who missed the annual gaming recap. However, there is a catch. Microsoft has not officially announced Xbox Playback, and the reported webpage is not publicly accessible yet. The early version also appears to have bugs, with @redphx first-console information reportedly showing an incorrect result. As of writing this, @redphx’s Xbox Playback page has been removed. Here’s a post on X confirming the same.

Xbox Playback could arrive around the 25th anniversary

Xbox turns 25 on November 15, 2026, making the timing of the leak interesting. Microsoft could use the milestone to launch Xbox Playback, although no release date has been confirmed. For now, players will have to wait for an official announcement. If the leaked details hold up, Xbox Playback could become a compelling nostalgia trip through decades of gaming memories.
