The Witcher franchise has grown into one of the most respected and appreciated video game series out there due to the quality of the content released. Develop CD Projekt Red is now looking to expand the Witcher experience beyond the original games in a similar way Blizzard took their Warcraft franchise and added Hearthstone to the mix. That comparison might be more accurate than you think with the new Gwent card game that heavily draws inspiration from the Witcher franchise.

A new update was released for the game which is still in beta that adds new features and a ranked game mode. There is also a new progression system put in place which directly ties in with the way matches are played. Beforehand, you would need three victories to fill up the bar that altered your level and towards progress.

Now, however, you need crown halves to fill it, a newly added element that can be earned by winning match rounds. Rather than having to depend entirely on winning matches, you can now lose a match and still get something for your time. That sounds like a great concept that will entice players to play more matches overall.

Rewards will be earned through various achievements and will consists of things like cards and card kegs, ore and scraps and other things that are yet to come. These rewards are tied to an experience leveling system which brings a more RPG-style gameplay to Gwent.

Additionally, the update isn’t all about new feature and major gameplay mechanic changes. There was also a fair share of bug squashing which overall cleansed the game of many of its existing problems. Unfortunately, the beta phase is closed to the public, meaning you need to be invited if you want to participate.
