Azure Sphere OS Version 24.03 Retail Eval release is available for testing

Microsoft announced on the official Microsoft Azure website that Azure Sphere OS version 24.03, a Linux-based microcontroller operating system, is available for evaluation in the Retail Eval feed.

The release offers a 28-day testing period, which will allow you to ensure that your apps and devices operate properly with it before it is deployed to devices in the Retail feed.

This Retail Eval release comes with

  • Bug fixes and security updates, including additional security updates from the canceled 23.10 release.
  • A bug fix for a sporadic issue with the OS update that caused the cancellation of that release.
  • An updated version of cURL, a vital component in Azure Sphere OS. It focuses on maintaining long-term ABI compatibility while modifying the mechanisms of cURL-multi, especially in recursive calls.
  • Backward compatibility for previously compiled applications while emphasis on addressing compatibility issues during the evaluation

The post also mentioned that if your applications leverage cURL-multi (as indicated by the usage of the `curl_multi_add_handle ()` API), you must undergo additional testing with the 24.03 OS.

It also mentioned that the changes don’t impact apps that use the cURL-easy interface (as indicated by the usage of `curl_easy_perform()` API.).

Furthermore, it mentioned:

Areas of special focus for compatibility testing with 24.03 include apps and functionality utilizing:

  • cURL and cURL-multi
  • wolfSSL, TLS-client, and TLS-server
  • Azure IoT, DPS, IoT Hub, IoT Central, Digital Twins, C SDK
  • Mutual Authentication
