The developers of the third-party Reddit Client Baconit have announced that their third-party Reddit client is now available on Xbox One. Of course, the app is only available for those in the Xbox One Preview Program, as UWP apps have not yet hit the current public build of the Xbox One. Nonetheless, the announcement was first made on Reddit. A developer of the app notes in the Reddit post:
You read that right! Baconit is now available on Xbox One for anyone in the preview program! I have been working with the Xbox team to light this up a bit early so preview users can get their hands on the app and start giving feedback. I’m mainly looking to see how people think the UI feels on Xbox and if they have any suggestions on where it can improve.
The developer responsible for the Reddit post also expressed appreciation for Microsoft’s Universal App Technology and mentioned that bringing the app to the Xbox one only took 3 code changes and 2 or 3 manifest changes to make this happen. In the developer’s own words:
99% of the code is Baconit is common to all 5 platforms it runs on, phone, tablet, desktop, HoloLens, and now Xbox. Most other cross platform tools for developers allow devs to share some code, but no other toolkit allow developers to write cross plat UI that dynamically fills the device and feels like native. THE UNIVERSAL APP DREAM IS HAPPENING!!!
So, if you happen to be one of the lucky folks who have an Xbox One enrolled in the Xbox Preview program, be sure to head over to the store now and download Baconit now! It is worth noting that if you don’t see the app at first, don’t be alarmed. The Baconit team is aware that some users aren’t able to find the app in the store yet, and is working to resolve the issue.
